The research addressed the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services over a 30-year period, highlighting the significant conversion of 148,250.14 hectares of forested areas into pastures, while 7,100.53 hectares of non-forest natural formations were also converted. The results indicate substantial losses, with 157,620 hectares of pasture experiencing moderate degradation and 28,916 hectares severely degraded, impacting cattle productivity. The study also projected a loss of 6,880 MgC (megagrams of carbon) from vegetation by 2051 as a consequence of agricultural and livestock development. This carbon loss will have implications for urban areas, signaling potential climate changes. Furthermore, the economic value of carbon sequestration services was estimated at $53,899,867.42 by 2021, while the estimated carbon loss over the 30-year period (1991-2021) amounted to 25,156,055.01 MgC, representing a value of $41,507,490.76.
