The introduction of intermodality in the transport of loads occurred with the aim of optimizing this activity, reducing the time of operation and transportation time. Over time, great changes occurred in the economic and technological environment that resulted in new terminologies, such as multimodal, co-modal and synchromodal transport, arising from the need for other approaches to intermodality. The aim of this study was to identify an overview of the articles related to multimodality in the context of cargo transportation, considering the period from 2013 to 2017. To achieve this goal was used the Systematic Review as a research method, as a consequence of its rigorous methodology in the evaluation of the literature, which resulted in a higher quality end product. At the end of the research, we obtained information about the countries of origin and application of the research, the most used research formats, the quantitative methods used, the loads and how many articles worked them, the modal combinations studied and the most common terminology in the literature.
