Despite its socio-economic contributions, this activity often neglects environmental and social impacts, as evidenced by recent tragedies in national and international news. In this context, this study aimed to identify degraded and recovering areas due to mineral exploration in the municipality of Ipixuna do Pará for the years 2017, 2020, and 2022. This was done using remote sensing tools such as the Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) and the Modified Soil-Adjusted Vegetation Index (MSAVI), obtained through images captured by the Landsat 8 satellite. Two mining-affected areas, both operated by a mineral transformation company, were selected for analysis. Geoprocessing and remote sensing techniques were used to generate maps and analyze the data. Data analysis showed differences in quality between SAVI and MSAVI, with the latter index demonstrating superior analytical performance. However, both were considered satisfactory for analysis, highlighting their fast processing and low cost. Based on these results and the need for supervision to mitigate forest deterioration, this study presents the tested indices as an economically viable possibility for monitoring the state of conservation, degradation, and regeneration of forests.
