The group was appointed as special envoys by the South Korean president, obtaining diplomatic passports and participating in campaigns against child violence, as well as delivering a speech at the UN General Assembly. South Korea aimed to leverage BTS's global popularity to promote Busan as the epicenter of innovation and culture, with the goal of hosting the World Expo 2030. However, losing the bid to host the event highlighted the challenges of aligning celebrity diplomacy with large-scale events, revealing a complex dynamic between international popularity and political objectives. The country faces the need to reassess its goals after this setback, emphasizing the intriguing intersection between global pop culture and governmental actions. South Korea's journey in international mega-events, such as the 1988 Summer Olympics, symbolized overcoming na economic crisis, while the K-pop industry and South Korean cultural diplomacy play fundamental roles in the country's international promotion.
