Since the pre-modern age, it went through apolitical gold and silver coins, changed to gold backed coins into the pound-gold and dollar-gold standards, finally arriving at the fiat currency based on trust in the states that issue them. Since the launch of cryptocurrency and the possibility of using it as payment methods that doesn’t rely on any financial intermediary, there has been a misalignment between the International Monetary Regime’s currently employed policies and the technological innovation’s economic bias. In face of that, this research has as the general objective the analysis of the factors that underlie the debate regarding the regulation of cryptocurrency in the United States of America (USA) due to the hegemonic role the USA exerts in the International System (IS). Coming from a qualitative, bibliographic and documental perspective, and utilizing the single-case study as the technical procedure method, one can conclude that it is necessary for cryptocurrency to become “as good as one cryptocurrency”, that the political parties have great influence on the factors that ensued on the regulations in New York and Florida, and, finally, that the eventual export of the United States’ cryptocurrency regulation to the International System would not result in the breakup of the International Monetary Fund’s internal structure as an institution that governs the international monetary regime.Língua PortuguesaAbertoCryptocurrencyInternational monetary systemInternational regimesTrabalho de Conclusão de Curso (TCC)
