The objective of these units is to develop an integral attention, by means of health promotion, protection, maintenance and prevention. On this basis, this work aimms to study Basic Health Units locations in the Belém Metropolitan Region (RMB) using the Maximal covering location method to propose a guiding base to decision making about public investments in SUS units focused on basic health care. For that, it was developed a quantitative study case in which was colected data about habitants in such region to define the demand for those units services. Following that, the data was treated for the Maximal covering location model formulation and solution, using the software AIMMS. Several scenarios were simulated by means of parameters variation. The optimized scenario shows that 175 UBS located in the 6 cities evaluated can cover the overall demand (100%) within a distance of 1 Km, in which the average distance between all the demand points and the units equals 15,79 Km. Such results were analyzed and compared with the real UBS locations.
