Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Bacharelado em Relações Internacionais) – Universidade do Estado do Pará, Belém, 2024.https://bibliotecadigitaldetcc.uepa.br/handle/riuepa/617This article explores the complex issue of biopiracy in the Amazon, analyzing its implications for national and international security, as well as for national and global economies. Utilizing the theory of Realism in International Relations, the study highlights how biopiracy threatens Brazil's sovereignty by exploiting genetic resources and traditional knowledge without proper consent or compensation. The Brazilian Biodiversity Law is examined as an important step in the fight against biopiracy, but gaps and challenges in the effective implementation of protective policies are emphasized. The article also examines the impact of biopiracy on the economy, underscoring how illegal and unregulated extraction of biological resources deprives Brazil of significant economic benefits and perpetuates international economic inequalities. The importance of international cooperation is highlighted, with a focus on the Nagoya Protocol and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture as essential means to effectively confront biopiracy. Finally, the article presents a forward-looking analysis, arguing that integrated and strategic biodiversity management is vital for Brazil's national security and sustainable economic development. It concludes that, in addition to strengthening national policies and legislation, Brazil must actively engage in international initiatives and partnerships to combat biopiracy and promote sustainable use of its biological resources.Língua PortuguesaAbertoBiopiracy in the AmazonSecurityEconomySustainable developmentInternational cooperationBiopirataria na Amazônia: segurança e economia na perspectiva realista.Artigo Científico (TCC)
